Early Season Success For Jake David

First session on a new syndicate! I was told it had a stock of around 30 fish, dark, old, scaley, English originals.

On turning up on Tuesday around 4:30am, I was greeted to a torrential downpour. I had to analyze the water as it was my first time down and I desperately wanted to find the fish or some sort of patrol route.

Being Weedy and gin clear I ended up deciding at around 8am to settle on a swim. I managed to find a channel amongst a large weed bed, just about big enough for two rods so I settled on it.

I spread a scattering of boilies over the top, all coated in syrup and sprinkled them with the stick mix,.

I fished over the top with two multi rigs. These where made from size 4 R-Curve Barbless hooks, with the soon to be released Re-Peel Coated Hooklink in Flexi Green, with the wafters mounted on a Micro Ring Swivel with a piece of Bait Floss. To finish my set up I had a size 8 Quick Swivel, which was housed in a Lead Clip System with Pin and to avoid any tangles I slide a Tungsten Anti Tangle Sleeve onto the hooklink and pulled this over the clip of the Quick Swivel. As it was weedy and as per lake rules, I slid a length of Tungsten Rig Tubing onto the Deceptive Fluorocarbon Mainline to not only protect the carps flanks during the fight but to also pin the last few yards down.

Over the next 72 hour I managed seven runs and landing 5, this is to be expected with a weedy lake and barbless hooks, it’s difficult with the weed but with steady pressure and keeping the rod tips high the barbless R-Curve didn't let me down. No targets were caught but to catch 5 old dark carp with some nice 20lb+ fish amongst them, I know my target fish will slip up soon enough.
